The Links at Glenbarr
18-hole links layout routed along the Scottish coastline in the village of Glenbarr — designed for an international golf course design competition.
About the Project
The Links at Glenbarr is an 18-hole links design routed through the coastal terrain of Glenbarr, a village on the Kintyre peninsula in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. The layout was created as an entry in an international golf course design competition, finishing 8th out of 40 entries.
Design Approach
The routing takes full advantage of natural links terrain — firm, fast ground conditions, coastal wind exposure, and the undulating land characteristic of traditional Scottish seaside golf. Holes were routed to play with and against the prevailing wind, creating a varied test that changes character throughout the round.
Concept & Vision
The goal was a course that felt earned by the land rather than imposed on it — minimal earthmoving, natural green sites, and fairways that follow the contours of the ground. A layout that rewards course management and creative shot-making over raw power.
